Grandma Causey’s Letter about Jenning’s Estate & Ancestors

Transcribed by Robert M. Fleming Jr.

Grandma Causey's letter pertaining to Jenning's estate data and ancestors. written to Iva Florence Causey Fleming.

25 April - no date -- I will write a few lines. a year ago when I decided to write about that estate I was here. & I wrote to Guy & he told his boss about it. & he told him to come over here & talk to Mr Spencer. that he would give his advice & wouldnt charge any thing. so he came here. and he had me tell him the names & all I knew about the ancestors. & he wrote it down. & after lunch he went down & had a long talk with him. & he said that G G grandfather that started over here on the ship & died would be our Emigrating ancestor. & we would have to find out all about his wifes name & the name of the ship they were in. & the name of that baby that was born on the ship. who was our G grandfather, that one that died on the ship was the gran F of my grand F. & he always claimed his G F was the nephew of Wm J. & his father was a great nephew. well he wrote to Eng. & told them but the court threw it out. said he didnt have ehough evidence to prove he was a descendent of Wm J. that was before I was born. he seemed to think all he had to do was to tell them he was one of the heirs. & I think that is the reason no one has done any thing with it. they didnt know how to go about getting it. Spencer told Guy we would have to get some one who understood hunting up Family records. he said there was men who follow that business all the time. thats when I of Mr Loeber, a Geoloigist Spencer said. Lawyers didnt hunt up Family records. if they did they hired some one to hunt it up. & charge a big price. & we could get it done much cheaper. & he said if we got it all hunted up then a lawyer could take it to court & prove up on it. then if the estate was settled it would be settled by the court. & each heir get his share. & the court would settle the fee of the lawyer. what ever they tho't it wasworth. so you see I have known always that one heir couldnt get an estate & use it themselves. & I think that Mr Loeber misunderstood Titia about it. for I know she had more sense than that. I think she made such a fool of herself. he was so disgusted with her. he got some of it wrong. Any one that has any sense knows more than that. well you can see by his letters he is doing some thing. in his last letter he writes about Mrs Wilson. she is Mary Jane Jennings Wilson. & he hunted up her record. & she proved up on it. he didnt say what branch she is on. but she is in his office helping him. I sent him$25. a month or more ago. the Allens sent $5. & Effie sent $3. &I sent $2. & they have done a lot with it. Aunt Thueas she sent $3. & me & Guy put in $2. he has found where Grand F & his Bros & sister was born & raised. & we didnt know a thing about him. & Titia (Grandma's sister - married Dr Butler) said in her letter to Thuesa she had spent money & time & she couldnt find any thing. & she knew if she couldnt we couldnt. well why did she start in to hunting it then. just because she was afraid I would get it. & get a little honor that she wanted. I wouldnt have cared if she had hunted it if she had let me along. Effie wrote when she sent that $3. If I needed more she and Grace would send some. & then only a short time after that she wrote she had just had a letter from Titia & she had advised her not to send any more money as it was impossible for us to find anything to amount to any thing. So she guessed she wouldnt send any more. you can see what he says about her after she talked to him like she did. he says lets forget it. but I wont forget it ever. & I dont think I can send any more money . (now any how) I hate to have him stop but I cant see any other way. I wanted to send some more the last of this month. if I ever get a record not one of the others shall get a smell of it. without paying $35. or more. then I will have it typed & send it after they send the money. & I wont let the others have it unless they promise to not let any one see it. Charlie R must be be acquainted with Mr Spencer as he has been atorney for the Bell T Co for over 40 years Guy says. he told Guy he believed we were on the Wm J branch there were so many Williams in the family. & it has been talked about in the family that that Jennings that died on the ship was named William. & that Samuel that left that estate in Penn may have been his father. you can see on this letter that Titia wrote to Thuesa that the Wm Penn estate & the Wm J estate joins. well they may have been friends & Samuel may have been some kin. so many Samuels in the family. I believe Grand F was named Samuel after some of his kin. Bonifield was after his mother's father. well we cant ever get any of the Wm J estate. or the Samuel either. until we can prove we are on their branch. We are well for a wonder. F has been fixing up this place up here since the fire. Cut out & put in a fine big window. there in the kitchen so we dont have to turn on a light every time we go in there now. --- not finished ---
